When you buy a low-cost PC you usually get what is termed an "entry-level" PC. This means that it has a minimal amount of memory (RAM), a low performance processor (CPU) and a fairly basic graphics card (often on-board graphics).
For many people this sort of system is perfectly OK and meets all their needs. For some, however, as they use their PC for more and more tasks, they come up against some of the limitations and the usual solution is to buy a new, more powerful PC. Often, though, a relatively simple upgrade can dramatically increase the performance of the "old" PC.
